Moonbreon pop report: 21,000 PSA 10s and the price will not budge

Nothing about moonbreon is low pop. PSA has stamped 21,430 Gem Mint 10s on the Umbreon VMAX alternate art from Evolving Skies, out of 30,862 total submissions, and the slab still trades at roughly double raw. If you came here expecting a scarcity story, this card tells the opposite one: the pop report's job here is explaining why twenty one thousand copies of "the same card" have not crushed the price.

What does the moonbreon pop report say?

As of the August 13, 2026 pull: 30,862 graded, 21,430 PSA 10s, 6,389 PSA 9s, 1,587 PSA 8s. That is a 69.4 percent gem rate, and the 30 day pop trend reads -5% with 404 grades added in the last reporting period. Submissions have cooled from the 2024 peak; the census has not stopped growing.

One trap to flag before you compare listings: "Umbreon VMAX" is three different rows on the census. This page covers 215/203, the Keiichiro Ito alternate art. The 214/203 rainbow rare and the 095/203 regular print are Akira Egawa's separate artwork with their own, much smaller populations. Why is the gem rate so high?

A 2021 chase card lives a padded life. Copies went from pack to sleeve in seconds, and at today's grading fees owners screen hard before submitting, so the census mostly counts cards that were already candidates. The commonly reported killers on this card are holo scratches and print lines, which show starkly against the near black night sky foil, and edge whitening on the dark borders; the etched VMAX texture hides light surface wear. No PSA study backs any of that up, only years of grading channel postmortems, but the 69.4 percent output is right there in the numbers.

Scarcity never lived in the grading room anyway. TCGplayer's Evolving Skies pull study put a specific alternate art VMAX around one in two thousand packs, roughly 55 booster boxes per copy (their figure, widely cited, original article paywalled to crawlers). The card is hard to pull, easy to gem. The pop report catches only the second half.

Who painted it?

Keiichiro Ito, and the assignment reads like a promotion story. His English database credits start in 2019 with commons and uncommons, Magmortar, Tauros, Sableye, two years of bulk. Then Evolving Skies hands him the biggest canvas in the set: Umbreon on a clock tower spire above a moonlit harbor, the full moon that gave the card its nickname. It has never been reprinted in either language, and Ito went on to Special Illustration Rares in the Scarlet and Violet era. The rainbow and regular Umbreon VMAX prints people confuse with this card are Egawa's art, not his.

The margin, priced honestly

Look at where the 9 lands first. It sits basically at raw, which is the market telling you a 9 is the losing outcome on a card that gems seven times out of ten. And the fee line is Super Express, because an honest declared value on the likely PSA 10 outcome (around $4,200 on PriceCharting today) busts the cheaper tiers' insured maximums.

The market moment worth remembering: raw broke $1,000 in January 2025 as Prismatic Evolutions dragged every Eeveelution upward, and a BGS 10 touched nearly $14,000 that month per Wargamer's reporting. Since then the raw price roughly doubled again. A census this size normally caps a card. Demand outran it.

Should you grade one?

If your copy survives a slow tilt under a desk lamp, the math above says submit, with the usual caveat that a 69.4 percent gem rate still leaves a three in ten chance of the 9 line. If you are buying the slab instead: 21,430 PSA 10s means the premium you pay is for liquidity and certainty, not rarity.
